Paradiso Insurance would like to recognize a local community center that helps out those who have fallen on hard times. The Hockanum Valley Community Center is a private non-profit human services agency that helps those families of the Vernon and Tolland County area. Along with basic needs, HVCC also assists with transportation, substance abuse, mental health and elderly needs as well.
The HVCC basic needs program provides assistance to individuals and families which promotes independence while assuring basic needs are met in a dignified manner regardless of ability to pay to prevent hunger and homelessness. The HVCC provide the following:
- Emergency food, fresh produce, and bread items – distributed on a daily, weekly or monthly basis depending on need.
- Before and after-school children’s snack program.
- Workshops on topics to improve quality of life for low-income families.
- Provide referrals to energy assistance programs.
- Food, clothing and household items provided to victims of fire or abuse to set-up new households.
They also hold a Food of the Month program where each month HVCC asks for a different type of food donation. This month’s foods are Jelly/ Jam, and canned spaghetti or ravioli. Next month’s foods are pancake mix & syrup, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Aside from food donations, you can also donate money to the HVCC and actually sign up to pledge a certain amount for each month. If interested in volunteering, there’s a sign up for that too!
Those that work at HVCC answer the call to serve their community every day, but now it’s OUR turn to help them out. Paradiso Insurance will be teaming up to collect peanut butter for the HVCC in order to make sandwiches for the children and families that visit the HVCC on a regular basis. Please call us if you’d like to make a donation to the HVCC, or just stop down to 8 East Main Street with a jar or two of peanut butter today! 860.684.5270
