Okay, okay, I had to use that football pun in the title since it is Friday and there are some GREAT football games on this weekend- both college and professional (I’m biased towards the college game though, just in case anyone is wondering). But anyway, getting off topic. Back to ct home insurance. We would like to discuss things that you may not think about when figuring out your homeowners insurance coverage. These ‘gaps in coverage’ can really become a problem for you, but are very easy to cover… IF you know what to look for.
So in order to ensure that your home doesn’t have any gaps in its ct homeowners insurance coverage, make sure to have the following three items under your policy limits because these are the most overlooked aspects of your policy, and thus some of the main causes of insurance claim headaches.
First and foremost, the cost of your home! Now we understand how that may sound weird, but to be honest, many people simply insure their home for the amount they paid for it. But that cost is the MARKET VALUE of the home, not necessarily the cost to rebuild your home. You need to cover the latter with insurance, not the former.
Second, make sure that any extra-special and/or expensive items in your home are covered. Your typical ct homeowners insurance covers most items, however gives limits to special items. These items include jewelry, fine china, collectibles, furs, etc. So if you have some or multiple items aforementioned, you may want to look into having additional coverage for them.
Third and finally, if you work from home in a home office, then you need special insurance coverage for that as well! The standard ct homeowners insurance policy covers equipment for business purposes in the home for around $2,500 little to no liability coverage for business use of your home. That last line item is key because if you have people visiting your home (delivery persons, clients, other workers), then liability coverage is CRUCIAL. Just think about the risk of running ANY business without liability coverage- exactly, no one in their right mind would do that!
Have a great weekend everyone!
