Connecticut State Police are proposing to put a new gun range and training facility in the middle of a residential section of a rural town in Willington, CT. Controversy has been no stranger to this topic from the start. With a proposal to build a new facility 10 times larger than the current one on 300 acres of land, Willington’s concerns reach far beyond a mere “not in my backyard” mentality. True concerns lie in the overreach of the state which will have devastating effects on the environment, property values, and the town’s character.

Accountability has also stood as a foremost concern in this matter. State Police seek to purchase more land instead of considering land already owned by the state, refusing to reveal many crucial details of their plan to build this massive paramilitary facility. It is also a concern that the use of this facility will be open to unnamed and unnumbered national and international entities.

Do you think the state is stepping over their boundaries? If so, you can help by signing the petition against this proposed facility.
