Independence Day is coming up! Are you ready to enjoy a day filled with grilling, chilling, and fireworking? As a resident of Connecticut, you may be wondering about that LAST one…

The big question may be: Are fireworks legal in Connecticut? This week, Paradiso Insurance has the answer. YES!

According to the U.S. Fireworks website, consumer fireworks are legal under Federal law for consumer use. However, there are a few things to be aware of. Certain types of fireworks MUST have local approval. These include:

•    Bottle Rockets
•    Sky Rockets
•    Roman Candles
•    Firecrackers
•    Smoke and Punk
•    Missiles
•    Parachutes
•    Sky Flyers
•    Display Shells
•    Aerial Items

As for those that are ALWAYS legal for use?
•    Sparklers
•    Fountains
•    Novelties
•    Crackle and Strobe
•    Wheels and Spinners

Honestly, approval or no approval, it is critical to ALWAYS be cautious when handling fireworks and creating your own firework display. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that local fire departments respond to AT LEAST 50,000 fires caused by fireworks each and every year—July being a popular time of year for such fires.

If you will be playing with fireworks and such this week, you may want to consider adding extra liability insurance to your homeowners policy. If this is the case, do not hesitate to reach out to our agency at your earliest convenience. We would be more than happy to look into your existing home insurance plan and see if you are properly protected from the worst case scenario.
