5 Fun Fall Activities in Connecticut

5 Fun Fall Activities in Connecticut

With the cooler temperatures here, and leaves changing colors it’s time to celebrate the fall season. As locals to the New England region, our insurance agency knows how important this season is to many of us! Hot cider, scarfs, and weekend festivals are the ways we celebrate the Autumn weather here, and we hope you can celebrate it with us.

So, here are 5 fun activities you and the family can enjoy in Connecticut this fall.

1. Festivals

New England is famous for its fall festivals and many towns big and small hold a variety of festivals for all to enjoy. In fact, festivals typically run from September until October in Connecticut, so be sure to attend one in time!

Additionally, don’t forget to bring enough cash with you. Many festivals are free to attend, but if you want a seasonal candy apple or fried dough, you’ll need cash. Many food and game stalls are cash only and usually don’t have ATMs.

It’s also a good idea to arrive a bit early, this way you can find parking.

2. Farm Trip

Visiting a local farm is the one of our favorite things to this time of the year, especially in Connecticut. Many farms offer free or inexpensive hayrides and corn mazes you can enjoy.

Don’t forget to get fresh food while you’re at it. Apples, pumpkins, squash, cider, pies, and jellies are at their peak for the season, and there’s nothing better than farm fresh produce!

3. Plan a Foliage Viewing Picnic

While changing leaves is nothing new to us New Englanders, families travel a far distance to see the beautiful colors of fall before the trees become bare for winter.

If you’re looking for a nice weekend trip with the family, but aren’t sure where or when to go, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has an interactive map that can provide you with the best viewing locations and peak times to visit.

If you’re not used the changing leaves, then make this something on your bucket list! The colors of Autumn are beautiful and should be enjoyed by all.

4. Tasting the Flavors of Fall

There’s nothing better than enjoying the flavors of Fall with a cup of clam chowder or a slice of pumpkin pie. In fact, there’s a variety of wonderful locally owned restaurants in our state that can satisfy any seasonal craving.

If you’re not a fan of sit down faire, why not try a cooking class out? Prices of these classes can vary, but they’re a great way to get everyone involved and learn a new recipe!

5. Tour of CT

While a scenic drive may be a common way to see the spectacular sites of Fall, an unorthodox approach is a great way to see the best views nature has to offer this time of year.

Stop into Essex, CT to take a train or steam boat ride down the Connecticut River. There’s also a dinner train that also provides hours of viewing and food service. Just be sure to check the schedule before you ride! The train and boat don’t always operate on the same days.
Connecticut is also famous for its ferries, and if you’re looking for a very inexpensive and relaxing way to see the Connecticut River and Autumn foliage, this is it. Ferries allow you to also cross with a vehicle if you have one.

Another unique way to enjoy the sights in Connecticut is by hot air balloon. These rides can be a bit pricey, but the aerial views you get to see are like no other!

So, if you’re planning to create a family, fun trip for everyone this Fall, stop by our state of Connecticut for festive activities. You won’t regret it!
