It can’t be… it’s impossible! There’s no way there is one food out there that you can eat and it will make you lose weight.  Well, make you loose weight may be a little much; it’s more like will contribute to losing weight.  And here’s the thing- it’s tasty, you can get it throughout the year and at pretty much any grocery store throughout the country.

SO! What is it then? A shake? Meat? Vegetable? Well, you were closest with the vegetable guess- it’s an apple of course! Remember that old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor way?” Well, not only can it keep the doctor away, but it can also keep the pounds away as well!

Why apples though? Well, they have great non-digestible compounds that directly contribute to the growth of good bacteria that exists in your stomach that is directly correlated with weight loss.  And how it works is even cooler: without getting too graphic (no one wants to get grossed out on a Friday afternoon!), the bacteria basically keeps a healthy balance of microbes in your digestive track that reduces chronic inflammation, which increases the risk of obesity, and boosts feelings of fullness to help stave off overeating.

But the final question is this: there are so many apple varieties, which one is best?! It’s Granny Smiths! Why? Well because they have the highest number of fiber and polyphenols of the other apple kinds like golden delicious, galas, and Macintosh.
