Here at Paradiso Insurance, we pride ourselves in being trusted advisors for our clients. Today we’d like to take a moment to speak to bar and grill owners about protecting their business, because we know how important your business investments are to you. It is, of course, important to have an insurance in place that will keep you covered, but here are a few more tips for protecting your business that may help you in the future.

Risk Management

As a bar or grill owner, you understand that your line of work can come with a lot of risk, so let’s talk about a few ways that you can keep these risks down to a minimum. First and foremost, it’s best to try to reduce the risk of kitchen fires, because you could lose everything to one incident.  To keep the risk down, be sure to keep your appliances cleaned and serviced if needed, and unplug any major electric equipment when you’re not using it. Also, use caution when lighting your grill or stove, keep long sleeves rolled up, and install sprinkler system in case of an emergency with a smoke detector nearby, just not directly in the kitchen. Other than that, be sure to have regular ongoing safety training for your employees to help reduce the risk of cuts, spills, burns or anything else that can happen in the kitchen. Be sure to always clean a spill as soon as it happens too, so that the problem doesn’t escalate.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleanliness should be a priority for any business in the food industry, especially for bars because where there’s alcohol, there’s usually a bit of a mess to be cleaned up after. Keeping your bar and kitchen areas clean is important to the overall success of your business.

Your Team

As in any industry, you should give careful consideration to hiring the  right employees.  Try to find people who have experience working in the food industry, especially those who are of age and have a bartending license if they are looking to work the bar. Look for employees who are good at working with people, because customer service goes a very long way.

Staying Protected

At the end of the day, you could make all of the right decisions, and put all of the necessary precautions in place, but you could still be vulnerable. In the case that anything were to unfortunately go wrong, we highly recommend having an insurance policy in place that will keep you covered.
