So this special weekend is finally here.  It’s the time when we gather with family, or friends, or both, and fire up the grill, uncover the pool, and put the outdoor furniture out in the sun, because it’s finally that weekend in late May- Memorial Day.

While the national holiday is specifically designed to celebrate the lives of the service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this great nation, it has turned into the unofficial beginning of summer.  The amount of cookouts, picnics, and family gathers held on Memorial Day weekend are probably among the most throughout the calendar year.  Image the amount of barbecue chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs that are consumed during this weekend alone!

Speaking of being consumed, there’s plenty of spirits that are certainly involved with these annual festivities.  And while there’s nothing wrong with having a beer or a cocktail, make sure that if you’re having a few drinks, that you have a designated driving to get you home safe, or at least have a couch or bed to crash on.  Not only could you be responsible for an accident if you get behind the wheel after having one too many, but responsibility can also fall on the host of whatever gathering you are coming from.

That’s why we all need to be careful on weekends like this. Drivers need to make sure that they are capable of doing so, and hosts of large picnics and parties need to ensure that they aren’t enabling someone to get behind the wheel after having too many drinks.  Liability and CT insurance are as important during weekends like these as they are any other time of the year.  So make sure that you’re safe this weekend!

God Bless America!
