We all love our homes, don’t we? It’s the only place where you can be at peace with yourself, spend quality time with your family, make memories, and be truly happy. For a homeowner, their residence is a matter of pride and has deep sentiments attached to it. This deep emotional connection and the financial responsibility that comes with a house are the main reasons why maintaining a home can be so stressful.

Ideally, you want your house to be in optimal condition all year around. Most people like to clean inside their home every other day in order to keep their house in check. However, it’s not as common to pay attention to the outside of the house as it is for the inside. This is exactly where homeowners go wrong. By not paying attention to the outside of your home, it can lead to big problems over time, thereby increasing insurance claims, which associatively increases the cost of your annual premium.

At Paradiso Insurance, we care for your well-being and livelihood. That is why we’ve put together a comprehensive list of things to go through in order to shape up the outside of your house in no time. And right now, just before the first winter snow hits, is the perfect time to go through this list!

Maintain any trees

It’s important to make sure that all of the trees on your property are healthy. Otherwise your chances of having a tree fall on your property during a winter storm are much higher. Plus it’s much easier to work on these projects now, rather than having to haul tree limbs after a heavy snow!

Leaves

Don’t forget about the leaves! It’s important to rake leaves from your property so that when the winter sets in, they won’t be covered with all that snow. If you leave them under the snow, it’s much harder for your grass to pop up in the Spring.

Cleaning your gutters

During the fall, leaves fall rapidly from trees and can accumulate in your gutters. This will clog your gutters and cause water to pool on your roof, leading to ice dams. Ice dams can be a costly repair for both the exterior and interior of your home.

Other exterior repairs

Is your roof, siding, or house’s foundation damaged? If yes, make the necessary repairs during the fall months. The smallest of things can turn into bigger damages overtime. So take precautions today so that you don’t have to pay big bucks later.

Seal the gaps

Winter is almost here. It is the time of the year that creatures of all sorts will be looking for a warm place to spend their hibernation period in. Fill small holes and cover any larger gaps securely with heavy-duty hardware cloth to avoid an infestation in your house after winters.

Safe to walk?

Make sure that your walkways, railings, stairs, and the driveway are safe for winter and that you have a proper amount of salt and ice melt. Because once the snow starts flying you won’t be able to make the necessary repairs and the ice will accumulate fast!
