We never want to talk about it here, but there’s always a possibility of a total loss to your home, especially from fire.  And while total losses are devastating, there can be light at the end of the tunnel if you’ve taken the necessary steps to ensure that you receive the most from your claim.

What do we mean by this? Well, if you don’t have an up-to-date list of the items in your home that you’d need replaced in the event of a CT home insurance loss, then how is the insurance company going to know that you had the items in the first place and you’re not simply trying to pull a fast one on them? It makes sense if you think about it- they’re not trying to be cruel, but they have to protect their business from fraud (which happens a lot more than you think it does), so if you don’t have a good inventory of items in your home that are up-to-date, like a new refrigerator you just got a month ago, then the insurance company will probably only reimburse you for the cost of your old fridge, since that’s what they have on record.

This is so important for a number of reasons that go without saying, but NOW is the time to do it, especially after the holiday season when many of us may have received special (and a little pricey) gifts that we otherwise wouldn’t have purchased ourselves.  These items include new jewelry, any collectible items of value, big screen TV’s… you get the jist.

Whatever you may have gotten from a loved one or family member, make sure to document it in your home’s inventory and make sure that your CT home insurance company is aware of the new items as well.  This will all be a huge help in the claim process if you find yourself in the unfortunate event of a loss.

Give Paradiso Insurance a call today to make sure that we’re up-to-date on your most valuable items so that we can help you out as much as possible if the time comes.
