For some CT homeowners, the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy can  bring another round of troubles and hardships that you may not have been aware of.  Many insurance companies have raised rates and even added new wind and hurricane exclusions and deductibles, since the weather seems to be getting worse and worse.  So that’s why we are here to give you the tips you need so you can receive the full benefits of your CT homeowners insurance.

First, you should take photos of everything around your house, taking meticulous inventory of everything valuable you own .  If your home is damaged from the storm, make sure to write down and document the damaged goods, before you touch or move anything. Furthermore, leave the damage  the way it is until an insurance adjuster gets there to survey the damage. This may be difficult to do, but try to as best you can.

Here’s a really good aspect of your coverage policy that you may not have previously known.  Most CT homeowners insurance policies cover the expense of spoiled food if the power goes out for a significant amount of time.  HOWEVER,  if that’s the only loss you may have, check that deductible you have, because the cost may fall under that and you’ll have to replace the food yourself.

Stay tuned tomorrow for more information regarding Hurricane Sandy and CT homeowners insurance. The more you know, the better off you’ll be!
