Okay, so it may be an absolutely gorgeous day out today, but yesterday (and the entire holiday weekend for that matter) was a complete washout.  And when we say washout, we mean washout. Flooding occurrences seemed to be happening everywhere in southern New England, so it definitely brings flood insurance to our mind, and it should for you as well!

Now, we’ve discussed at great length the benefits of flood insurance for your home, but we haven’t really touched on the flooding of vehicles and how the right insurance coverage can protect you from that type of loss.  If your car becomes flooded while parked in your driveway, or if you decide to drive through some flooded roads which end up being waaaay deeper than you expect, then you may experience some major issues with your car’s performance.  If that occurs, a claim on your insurance may have to occur, but unfortunately, some insurance policies won’t cover this type of damage unless specified in the policy.

If you have comprehensive insurance coverage for your vehicle, you should be okay, but if you only have liability for instance, than that cost to repair your car would fall completely on you.  Furthermore, some people mistake their homeowners insurance coverage as being a suitable policy for their cars if they become flooded in the driveway.  Again, some policies will cover it, some will not.  That’s why you need to check to make sure your Hartford flood insurance has you covered for everything you want under the policy.

That’s why it is so very important to know the ins and outs of your insurance coverage, especially home and auto.  There are so many things that can happen which can result in a claim. Trust us, you’re much better off being too covered than not covered enough, especially if you’re just finding that out after the storm has past.
