According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the number of claims relating to severe summer storms, namely hail storms, has increased substantially over the past couple of years.  How much of an increase, you may ask? Well, how does an 84% increase sound?!  That’s right, hail storm damage claims have increased eighty-four percent in only two years… I’ll let that sink in for a second.

You may wonder what qualifies as a ‘hail storm insurance claim.’ Well, damage can range from a few shingles being broken, to the almost complete destruction. Over two million claims were processed from 2010 through 2012, all relating to hail damage.  Now, fortunately for us here in Connecticut, the large majority of those claims occurred in the MId-West and South regions of the country.  But that’s not saying a big hail storm couldn’t hit Stafford Springs tomorrow!

So what can you do about it? Well, besides pray (haha), you need to have two things completed, over anything else.  The first item is to have your home checked for anything that could lead to a significant loss if it were exacerbated from a severe storm, and have it fixed.  Secondly, stop down to Paradiso Insurance to make sure that your house is covered for everything that you need in terms of CT homeowners insurance.  There’s nothing worse then having to inform a family who’s home was severely damaged from a storm that some of their belongings aren’t covered on insurance.  So make sure you know everything about your coverage, and if there’s something else you’d like covered, let us know!
