Hurricanes are a devastating force; everyone knows the ruin and pain they can cause.  Just look at New Orleans, Louisiana.  People are still recovering from Katrina’s desolation more than four years later.  So what can we do to protect ourselves from future forces of nature?  While we can’t save everything, we can purchase insurance to insure that we are not homeless forever after a disaster.

First, we want to educate ourselves on exactly what our homeowners insurance covers.  Often, it will cover wind damage or falling objects but does not cover water damage or flooding.  Either way, knowing what our homeowners insurance covers is an important first step to protecting ourselves.

Another factor to consider is flood insurance.  As most homeowners insurance does not cover water damage and flooding, we want to protect ourselves.  Hurricanes carry with it extensive amounts of water, causing considerable damage to homes.  Flood insurance can cost as low as fifty cents a day but on average is about a dollar a day.

When all is said and done, each person must consider for themselves what their home and life is worth, how much they are willing to spend to protect it.  If you have questions regarding protection of your home, call Chris Paradiso of Stafford’s Paradiso Insurance to get your peace of mind.  Or visit www.paradisoinsurance.com for a free quote. 1-800-660-2991
