What is insurance to you? To some folks, it’s a piece of paper that they ignore most of the time, and we get that. Although, when something like an accident or another unfortunate event happens, insurance can be a lifesaver, especially if you have the right coverage. Insurance really is a commodity, so it should be treated like one. Since today, June 28, is National Insurance Awareness Day, we want to review some tips that could save you in the long run when it comes to shopping for insurance!

History of National Insurance Awareness Day

Some people may believe that insurance is only as old as a couple hundred years, but that is hardly the case. The earliest known versions of insurance stem all the way back to 3000-2000 BC, and is even written about in the first written laws known as the Code of Hammurabi. Insurance Awareness Day celebrates insurance in its entire history, but is also the perfect day to review a few key points on your policy.

Types of Insurance

The most common types of insurance that our agency sells in personal lines is life insurance, homeowner’s insurance, and car insurance. If you don’t have the proper coverage for any one of those things, and something unfortunate were to happen, then you could be under extreme financial burden. For our homeowners, you could be without a home in the event of a house fire or other catastrophic incident, but with the proper coverage, you would be able to have living expenses covered while you relocate. For our drivers out there, if you were in an accident and weren’t properly covered, first of all you’d be facing legal issues here in the state of Connecticut, and second of all, you may not have a way to get around afterward. With the right coverage, neither of those things will be an issue for you. Lastly, for our life insurance policies, this is the most unselfish form of insurance that someone can purchase. This is your way of saying to the ones that you love that if something unfortunate were to happen to you, you wouldn’t want them to be in debt or suffer without your income stream helping to support them long term.

For our business owners out there, reviewing your commercial insurance policy today never hurts either. If something were to happen to one of your employees, one of your vehicles, the physical location of your business, or some other unfortunate events, our agency wants to help you make sure you have the proper coverage. Otherwise, it could result in the downfall of you entire investment.
