Very few people realize how important the tires on their vehicles really are.  They aren’t simply pieces of rubber with treads that you need to replace once every few years. Did you know that there are over eleven thousand accidents on US roadways soley related to tire issues? And of those crashed, almost two hundred fatalities? Yea, tires are nothing to ignore.

Now, we don’t want to  get morbid on you, but we have to paint a pretty serious portrait for you to emphasize just how important your tires are to you and you CT auto insurance. All you have to really do though is simply pay attention and know what to look for, and your risk of getting into a tire-caused accident can significantly decrease.  Below are some key things to be on the lookout for to ensure that your tires are in tip-top shape:

  1. Checking your pressure, and checking it often— a good rule of thumb is at least every month.
  2. Tires age just like everything else.  Even though the tred may look fine, if the tires are older than 8 years, then it’s probably time for new ones.
  3. Rotation, balance and align. Make sure to look through your vehicle’s manual to make sure you are up to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  4. Potholes.  They seem to be everywhere because of the awful winter we experienced, and these little buggers can really do a number on your tires, even if you can’t recognize the damage at first glance.  Even if you hit one and nothing seems to be wrong, that doesn’t mean that something happened, like a broken seal.  So try your best to avoid them!
  5. Register all four. Now you may not know this (I didn’t), but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issues roughly twenty recalls a year, just for tires alone, so if yours are registers, you’ll have the ability to be notified immediately to fix the issue.

These are just some of the things that you can do to ensure that your tires are in good working condition.  Not only will your vehicle thank you for it, but your CT auto insurance with thank you as well!
